PROJECT TITLE:

Photocopying Fluid

Aim:

To make a photocopying fluid to copy newspaper print.

Materials Required:

1. Turpentine
2. Soap
3. Water
4. Bottle

Procedure:

Mix 4 parts of water with 1 part of turpentine into the bottle to make the fluid. Then add small piece of soap about the size a sugar cube also and shake the mixture until the soap is dissolved. The reason for the soap is to form an emulsion that keeps the turpentine and water mixture which have different densities from separating into separate layers. To copy a picture, take a newspaper sheet and moisten the sheet with the liquid you have made.

Then place a blank sheet of paper on top and then rub the paper vigorously a smooth convex object such as the undersurface of a kitchen spoon . The photocopying liquid dissolves enough of the ink so that a impression of the picture in reverse is transferred to the paper. Using this fluid, newspaper photographs and text can be transferred easily from the newsprint to any blank sheets of paper.
