To test for the presence of water in living things.

Materials Required:

1. Test tube
2. Bunsen burner
3. Beaker
4. Green plant leaves
5. White anhydrous copper sulphate

Procedure:

Heat green plant leaves in a test tube and collect the condensed vapour in a beaker as shown. Add a drop of this to white anhydrous copper sulphate.

Observation:

Each specimen will be found to produce a clear liquid which turns white anhydrous copper sulphate blue. This is a test for water.

Inference:

The experiment verifies the statement that living things contain water.
