Building a Hydraulic Lift

Building a Hydraulic Lift

Objective

Create a simple hydraulic lift to understand the principles of hydraulics.

Materials

  • Syringes (without needles)
  • Plastic tubing
  • Water
  • Wood or cardboard for the platform
  • Notebook for observations

Instructions

  1. Connect two syringes with plastic tubing and fill the system with water to remove air bubbles.
  2. Secure one syringe to a stable base and attach the platform to the other syringe.
  3. Press the plunger of the first syringe to raise the platform using hydraulic pressure.
  4. Observe and record the movement of the platform in your notebook.
  5. Experiment with different amounts of water and syringe sizes to see how it affects the lift.
  6. Analyze the principles of hydraulics demonstrated by your lift.
