Designing a Balloon Powered Car

Designing a Balloon-Powered Car

Objective

Create a simple balloon-powered car to understand the principles of propulsion and motion.

Materials

  • Cardboard
  • Soda straws
  • Balloons
  • Plastic bottle caps (for wheels)
  • Glue or tape
  • Notebook for observations

Instructions

  1. Cut a piece of cardboard to serve as the base of the car.
  2. Attach soda straws to the bottom of the base to serve as axles.
  3. Glue or tape plastic bottle caps to the ends of the straws as wheels.
  4. Secure a balloon to the end of another straw and attach it to the base of the car.
  5. Blow up the balloon through the straw and release the car to see it move.
  6. Measure and record the distance the car travels in your notebook.
  7. Experiment with different balloon sizes and car designs to see how it affects the propulsion.
  8. Analyze your findings to understand the principles of propulsion and motion in vehicles.
