Biodegradability of Different Materials

Biodegradability of Different Materials

Objective

Test the biodegradability of various materials and observe their decomposition rates.

Materials

  • Organic materials (e.g., fruit peels, paper)
  • Non-organic materials (e.g., plastic, aluminum foil)
  • Soil
  • Containers
  • Notebook for observations

Instructions

  1. Bury different organic and non-organic materials in separate containers filled with soil.
  2. Label each container with the type of material buried inside.
  3. Observe the materials over several weeks, noting any visible changes or signs of decomposition.
  4. Record your observations in a notebook, including the decomposition rate of each material.
  5. Compare the biodegradability of organic versus non-organic materials.
  6. Analyze your findings to understand the environmental impact of different types of waste.
