Exploring Buoyancy and Archimedes Principle

by

in

Objective

Investigate the principles of buoyancy and Archimedes’ principle using simple experiments.

Materials

  • Water
  • Graduated cylinder
  • Various objects of different materials and densities
  • Scale
  • Notebook for recording data

Instructions

  1. Fill a graduated cylinder with water and note the initial water level.
  2. Weigh each object and record its weight.
  3. Immerse each object in the water and measure the volume of water displaced.
  4. Calculate the buoyant force experienced by each object using Archimedes’ principle.
  5. Record all your measurements and calculations in your notebook.
  6. Analyze your findings to understand the relationship between buoyancy, object density, and fluid displacement.
  7. Present your results in a report, explaining the principles of buoyancy and Archimedes’ principle with your experimental evidence.
