Investigating the Conservation of Energy

by

in

Objective

Demonstrate the principle of conservation of energy using simple machines.

Materials

  • Ramp or inclined plane
  • Roller or toy car
  • Spring scale
  • Weights
  • Timer
  • Notebook for recording data

Instructions

  1. Set up a ramp and measure its height and length.
  2. Place a roller or toy car at the top of the ramp and release it. Use a timer to measure the time it takes to reach the bottom.
  3. Calculate the gravitational potential energy at the top and the kinetic energy at the bottom.
  4. Repeat the experiment with different ramp heights and weights.
  5. Record your measurements and calculations in your notebook.
  6. Analyze your findings to understand the conservation of energy in the system.
  7. Present your results in a report, explaining the principle of energy conservation and its significance.
